John Leguizamo and Denis Leary were once again very strong as Sid and Diego, respectively the lisping voice of Sid is distinctive and endearing, while Denis Leary's dry menace makes you want to laugh even when nothing funny has been said.
The characters themselves are a mixed bag of successes and failures. Subplots include the introduction of new characters (Latifah as Manny's female mammoth counterpart Ellie and two possums named Crash and Eddie), Manny's worry that his species is on the verge of extinction, Diego's internal struggle with his irrational fear of water, and Sid's discontent over not being respected by the rest of the herd. The plot: the Ice Age is ending, and the herd from the original film (Sid, Diego, and Manny) must move to higher ground or risk drowning when the great ice dam collapses. But a highly memorable film, "Ice Age: The Meltdown" was not. And that's exactly what the sequel turned out to be: a few chuckles sprinkled here and there, a nice talent addition in Queen Latifah, and a plot interesting enough to follow without falling asleep in the process. The original "Ice Age" was a good, not great, movie and I figured that the sequel would be more of the same. gavin now seen the film three different times (don't ask), I finally feel at least knowledgeable enough to write an adequate review. So our three heroes, along with Ellie, Crash and Eddie, form the most unlikely family-in any "Age"- as they embark on a mission across an ever-changing, increasingly dangerous landscape towards their salvation. The only chance of survival lies at the other end of the valley. Manny, Sid and Diego quickly learn that the warming climate has one major drawback: A huge glacial dam holding off oceans of water is about to break, threatening the entire valley. Their only problems: They can't stand each other-and Ellie somehow thinks she's a possum! Ellie comes with some excess baggage in the form of her two possum "brothers"- Crash and Eddie, a couple of daredevil pranksters and cocky, loud-mouthed troublemakers. That is, until he miraculously finds Ellie, the only female mammoth left in the world. Manny may be ready to start a family, but nobody has seen another mammoth for a long time Manny thinks he may be the last one.
